Question

We were going through the music collection tonight and were surprised to find a Jerry Jeff Walker cover of a King Crimson song. What other covers of your songs do you find interesting, amusing or just plain odd?

Answer

It is always an honour when someone covers one of my songs. It is of course quite a strange experience hearing someone else sing the words that you created in your own mind, but in the end it is a wonderful form of communication and a truly shared experience.

Greg

Question

* Dear Greg *

I really love your music.

Your voice, sound of guitar and  bass healing me and gives me an energy of living.

Your music is so delicate and  I feel your professionalism and strong will to music.

I have some questions for you.

Haven't  you ever controled your emotion before?

When you encounter such situations? How do you do?

I sometimes  losing my mind and it's annoying me.

I'm appreciated to taking time to read my letter.

I love your music forever.

kaori

Answer

Dear Kaori,

Thank you very much for you kind thoughts and very sensitive questions.

I don't believe that anyone can actually "control" their emotions, the whole thing about emotions is that they basically overwhelm you. This is true of love and passion as it is equally true of grief and loneliness. These are feelings over which we really have no control.

On the other hand, as an artist one always tries to describe these feelings in the songs and music etc that one creates so I suppose that in this sense these feelings are in a way controlled.

I do hope that this answers your questions.

Best,

Greg.

Question

Hi Greg, in view of Carl's rather harsh statement regarding the end of ELP, does this spur you on any to recreate that fantastic show you put on a few years back, I was lucky enough to see the show at Southend and was blown away!! It would be so good to see another tour.

Thankyou so much for all the years of great music.

Best regards

Mick

Answer

Dear Mick,

Firstly, thank you very much for your support and enthusiasm.

Regarding Carl's recent statement I can only say that he has apparently made up his mind that he no longer wishes to perform with ELP and of course I accept his decision, albeit with some degree of regret and sadness. Personally I felt that in return for their years of loyal support that the fans of ELP deserved one last world tour and again speaking personally, I would have certainly been prepared to make it happen.

Best Wishes,

Greg.

Question

Hi Greg

Have you ever considered doing a guitar workshop for those fans looking to sharpen their skills.

Regards

Rich from Brooklyn, NY

Answer

Dear Rich,

You are very kind to suggest this idea. I don't know about teaching the guitar per se' but I could probably offer an interesting insight into song writing on guitar etc. Thanks for the suggestion.

Best,

Greg.

Question

Your recent American tour was a surprise and a rare moment in musical history. Anyways,  fab show, still wondering about the Synth Drums and your "Recording Studio", whether you had a live "synther" on drums or really computer synthed, that was an amazing job of drumming to solve the missing Carl, and to do it live. Not sure if something like that has been done before for a live concert that by itself was revolutionary.

Answer

Many thanks.

Keith and I very much enjoyed performing this tour together and the use of technology was obviously an integral part of our being able to do this in the way that we did.

Part of the idea was to perform just as two musicians revealing the way in which the various records were written and recorded. In this way pieces like Take a Pebble, Tarkus, Bitches Crystal etc were performed simply by the two of us without the use of sequencers etc. However, for the benefit of the show, pieces such as Pirates etc would not have been possible without using it. The end result was an intimate show which not only offered an insight into the way Keith and I worked as writers and recording artists etc, but also provided moments of striking high energy entertainment. Overall I was personally happy with this balance and of course we were always open and honest about our use of the technology so there was never any attempt to hide or deceive anyone about its use.

Anyway, I am very glad you enjoyed the experience.

Best,

Greg.
